Ark Angels is the story of Shem, Hamu and Japheth; the three daughters of
Noah. They have been sent on a desperate mission to save Earth's endangered
species of animals. If they fail, mankind is to be destroyed.
In between their missions, Hamu and Japheth live incognito as high school
students (while Shem, the oldest, runs a flower shop and acts as their
guardian). Pretending to be ordinary humans, the girls live double lives in
order to hide the secret reality of a universe where every element, planet and
animal has a soul and thus a human personification; the most beautiful of which
is Earth, who suffers daily from mankind's attacks upon his body.
Using their helpers Tenten (Japheth), Minmin (Hamu) and Pinpin (Shem), the
sisters travel back in time on missions to save the last of each endangered
creature in their 'ark' - a vessel which will keep the animals safe until they
can return to Earth. Their progress is charted by the 'environmental watch'. For
every species that is lost, the clock moves closer to midnight... at which
point, the Earth is destroyed. Each animal that is saved makes the clock turn
back by one minute.
However, mysterious enemies who would rather see mankind destroyed work to foil
the sisters' missions. There are other problems also; for an unknown reason,
Japheth has to pretend to be a boy; and one of their classmates, the sullen and
mysterious Kirigi, appears to know more about her and her sisters than he
should. Will the sisters manage to save the Earth, or will mankind be doomed to
destruction?

Ark Angels is
my favourite manhwa. For a start, the artwork is exquisite and unique;
especially the cover art. The manga artwork itself is detailed, smooth and
attractive, and the character designs are beautifully done. The characters are
well-developed and likeable.
The story is unique and interesting; based on the Biblical story of Noah and the
ark, which is a unique and fascinating place to start. Also, the quite realistic
morals which pervade the story (i.e. helping to save endangered animals, conservation)
give the plot a lot of momentum, as well as getting across a very important message
in impressive style.

Manhwa
Ark Angels is
unfortunately a pretty obscure series; I had a hard time finding out any
information about it. However, the series is still in progress by Tokyopop, and
should be found in most bookshops which stock manga.
Anime
There is no
Ark Angels anime as of yet.
