Jeanie is at first overjoyed by the prospect of studying here; however, Amber is not so sure. Their aunt, principal of the school, leaves them with a warning; not to tell anyone that they are twins, as there are strange rumours surrounding the school. Sure enough, the creepy vice principal takes an immediate dislike to the two girls; and that's not all; they begin to have identical terrifying dreams. Greenwich is not a normal school, and its mysterious secrets, odd paintings and sealed rooms soon prove themselves more sinister than first glance. The school has a history of students disappearing of their own accord into the Bush surrounding the school in the dead of night; and when a student actually disappears one night, Amber and Jeanie begin to learn that the answers to all the riddles may lie in their dreams...   My thoughts   This series' best point is by far its storyline. The Dreaming is a chilling mystery/horror story, and the author builds suspense in every chapter as the twins discover more about the history of the school and come closer to uncovering the truth about the mysterious disappearing students. In my opinion the art style is a little clunky and not as finessed as other titles, but it is clear and concise, and doesn't hamper the story. The Dreaming is clearly aimed at young girls in their teens, and while some elements are obvious pulls to this type of audience, the series in itself is worth a look if you like mystery/horror manga, and don't mind reading Westernised manga in an Asian style.   Where to find it   Manga The Dreaming is creator Queenie Chan's first published graphic novel, and is an example of the new trend of Western gothic manga which is quite popular at the moment.
