One day, ten year old Sakura Kinomoto found an old book in her father's library. She
opened it to find its contents - the magical Clow Cards - gone, and was charged
by the book's guardian, Keroberos (later Kero-chan) to find them and capture
them. So began Cardcaptor Sakura's quest for the Clow Cards, aided by Tomoyo
Daidouji (her best friend), Syaoran Li (a visitor from Hong Kong also after the
cards) and Kero-chan. Eventually, Sakura found all the Clow Cards and faced the
Final Judgement to become the Master of the Clow.
There are now no more cards to capture, but there is no rest for Sakura as
mysterious and powerful magical disturbances are beginning to happen all over
Tomoeda. Unfortunately, the Clow Cards are powerless against such threats, and
a dark figure with a strangely familiar aura and a budding romance complicate
things. Can Sakura summon the bravery and determination it takes to convert the
cards to Sakura Cards and use her own magic to save her town?

Cardcaptor Sakura
is a series which needs little introduction, as one of the most famous and
successful shoujo
manga in both Japan and the West. It was the first anime series I watched, and several
years on it still retains the charm it always has done for me. CLAMP's unique and
compelling storytelling and beautiful artwork make a stunning combination.
This particular series is the second of the Cardcaptor Sakura story arc, but it
is easy to follow even if you aren't familiar with the first series (though I do recommend
reading the first series first). A good place to start your manga collection, as
it is suitable for all ages and will appeal to almost everyone.

Manga
The Cardcaptor Sakura manga
series has been split into two parts by Tokyopop in the West (while it is only
one in Japan) - Cardcaptor Sakura and this one, Cardcaptor Sakura:
Master of the Clow. Both series are widely available in many countries. The
first series has been reprinted by Tokyopop in a higher quality format than the
original, so be aware of this when buying volumes from this series.
Anime
Cardcaptor Sakura was dubbed
for American television by Nelvana under the title Cardcaptors some years ago, but
many Cardcaptor Sakura fans (including me) consider this dub a very poor
representation of the anime. For this reason, while Cardcaptors is
available widely on DVD and on television, I recommend searching out the
original show on (subtitled) DVD, which is split into three series in all (series 1: 35
episodes, series 2: 11 episodes, series 3: 23 episodes, 70 episodes in all).
There are also two Cardcaptor Sakura movies, the first of which (Cardcaptor
Sakura: The Movie) fits into the story arc after episode 35 of the first
series, and the second (Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card) of which
takes place after the end of the third series.
