The Manga 漫画
ARIA began with the
serialisation of its prequel, AQUA, in Japanese manga magazine Comic Blade. The
story arc of AQUA (which resulted in two tankoubon volumes) covers protagonist
Akari Mizunashi's arrival on Aqua, early Undine training and culminating in her
promotion to a single, the level of apprenticeship which comes before that of
prima, or a fully trained professional Undine.
The much longer story
arc of ARIA continues to follow Akari as she trains to become a prima Undine,
meets new friends and discovers new secrets about the wonderful place she lives
in.
Outside of Japan,
ARIA is at the moment only available up to its third volume, due to problems
with its licensing. ADV dropped the series, and Tokyopop are yet to begin republishing it,
beginning with AQUA, which is already available in Germany. In Japan, ARIA is still ongoing and at the moment is
in its tenth volume.
